Bring Back Chuck!
Just need to throw my support in for bringing back this awesome show and surprised I forgot to post here before in hopes it gets thrown in somewhere, somehow. I’m sure NBC has already finalized the schedule that is being released on Monday, but either way I want to say I’ve written in, been buying from Subway a lot more (both for health and Chuck reasons) and following the drama over it being renewed a few steps below my obsession with following the Devils. This is one of two shows I actually seek to watch on the main TV channels and I’d probably stop watching Heroes out of anger if NBC doesn’t renew.
How can you not love a show that mixes action and comedy in such a great way with the perfect cast of characters? Admittedly, I almost gave up on the show after the first 2-3 episodes, and then all of a sudden everything changed and the show was amazingly good. It doesn’t insult my intelligence, it has an original concept behind it, and it isn’t a cop/medical/law drama or reality TV. Similar shows on other networks either annoy me or I can’t get into them. I probably need to watch Lost from the beginning, because I just don’t like it at the moment, and The Sarah Connor Chronicles sucked and Dollhouse was even worse.
A quick note on Dollhouse: I don’t know where the hell all these Joss Whedon fan people are from, but this guy produces crap. I never got into Buffy, Angel looked and was RETARDED for the few episodes I caught, I didn’t bother with Firefly, and now Dollhouse is yet another “I want to explore deep premises but with a completely crappy plot.” Eliza Dushku is the only saving grace for that show and it could have been good, but when you have writing like:
Main Dollhouse Chick who runs everything: Are you painting?
Eliza Dushku (painting like a 2nd grader): Its not finished.
Main Dollhouse Chick who runs everything: Do you want it to be finished?
Eliza Dushku: Its not finished.
Wow. How fucking deep and insightful. Suck a cock, Joss Whedon. There, I said it.
Anyway, the only other shows on TV that are comedy/drama of some kind that I enjoy are House, Monk (not so much but it is ok and comes on before…), and especially Psych. From there it is random shows on Food Network (rarely), HGTV (much more often now that I am thinking about redecorating my house a bit), Bravo (Top Chef), sports, or something along these lines with the rare science/history show thrown in for good measure.
Ok, back on topic: Chuck needs to be renewed. We live in a world with terrible reality TV where millions of braindead Americans just can’t wait to see which fatty lost the most or which K-list celebrity is the best dancer. Where we need constant in-your-face shocking dramas that show you things that are horribly graphic and are not suitable to be on prime time TV (this is one case where I actually support the “save our children” argument because its just too accessible.) My mother tried to reason with me that it was ok for my sister (who is aged 10) to watch CSI because she’ll “learn things,” even though at least half of CSI is made up (as is half of House, too…), and even then a 10 year old cannot understand these concepts. So really its a confusing show that has a lot of graphic 3D renderings and gore and blood from the crime scenes to her.
Chuck is actually refreshing and something anyone can watch no matter how old or young (minus the super young, since there are fight scenes and people getting shot rarely). From a geek perspective, its pretty cool too, but even then you don’t have to be a geek to understand it. And the fan support has been so huge that I can’t imagine how they could say no at this point. But even then, I think its important to praise things you like just as much as it is to critique that which you do not, so here is yet another fan chipping in with more support for Chuck.
