Get Widgetized.

“But, you had such a nice theme.”

True! And I wish I could stick to Blue Laptop theme because it is pimp, indeed. However, it is not widget-ready, and this presents a problem.

Widgets are a feature of WordPress that I got since I decided to upgrade, and they are quite cool. Most sidebar plug-ins are now widgets, which you plug ‘n play for lack of a better term into the sidebar and tada, they are there. While I had no interest initially, the fact that every plug-in that I needed on my site is now a widget forced me to upgrade.

As the Blue Laptop theme is not widget-ready, I had to do some work to put in the code to make it replace the sidebar if any widgets were selected. No big deal, but the CSS is not applying to the widgets. Thusly, when using widgets, they look like crap, plain white pieces of the sidebar rather than being in the same look and style of the theme. I tried to search around for how to apply the CSS to the widgets by editing the theme’s style sheet, but alas I really am not that motivated to try to work on it after finding very little if any documentation after at least half an hour.

So, we move on to Mandigo. A little too plain for my tastes, but very customizable, updated regularly, and has all the latest bells and whistles.

I also didn’t realize how many people were coming to my site regularly. Maybe its spammers looking to get into my comments, which I’m now allowing and hope Akismet deals with all that very well, since I am sick and tired of these fucking automated programs getting into my comments.

Also as I’m typing this I’m installing NextGEN for an image gallery. Unfortunately my moblog and my image gallery have to be separated, I’d love to put the moblog INTO the gallery but that will have to come later if ever.
